State Girls Swimming: De Jong ends season with PR
MINNEAPOLIS — If her final swim of the 2017, Red Wing freshman Cecelia De Jong left the pool with something positive to build on.
Swimming in the Class A state championship meet in the 100-yard butterfly consolation finals, De Jong won her heat at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.
De Jong placed first in the consolation finals, and ninth overall, with a personal-best time of 58.44 seconds. The finish was a .19-second improvement over her seed time in Friday's prelims.
The 100 butterfly state champion was Blake School's Madison Potter with an All-American consideration time of 54.63.
In the 200 medley relay consolation finals, the Red Wing foursome of Grace O'Brien, Sammy Kriese, De Jong and Teegan Beyers finished eighth, placing 16th overall at 1:53.26.
The Melrose Area combination of Diana Nathe, Mikayla Von Wahlde, Gracie drossel and Makenzie Herzog won the consolation championship in 1:50.69. Faribault's Verity Wray-Raabolle, Bre Bresnahan, Gesa Wilden and Megan Gehrke were the state champions in the 200 medley relay in 1:45.69.
