Girls Hockey: Red Wing moves to 4-0
Fourth-ranked Red Wing had a 3-1 lead after the second period, but 12th-ranked Orono came out firing in the third to give the Wingers a run in an eventual 6-4 Red Wing victory on Thursday.
Taylor Heise had four goals and an assist for the Wingers, including a two-goal first period that put Red Wing up 2-0 into the first intermission.
Iyla Ryskamp got the Spartans on the board 51 seconds into the second, but Heise buried a Kendal Swanson pass at 12:25 to make it 3-1.
The third opened with Ryskamp scoring again just 51 seconds into the frame, and again Heise answered, this time just two minutes later.
Orono's Lizi Norton made it 4-3 with a goal at 3:25. Five minutes later, Solveig Roth gave Red Wing a two-goal lead on an assist from Heise, but Claire Suchy pulled the Spartans within one at 10:48.
Nicole Oberding got the game's final goal at 15:25, on an assist from Maria Haley.
Tyler McGrath made 25 saves in the win, while Orono's Eden Schultz stopped 20 of the Wingers' 26 shots.
Red Wing 2, New Prague 0
Taylor Heise and Elle Bryant got second- and third-period goals, respectively, to help give Red Wing goalie Tyler McGrath a 2-0 shutout victory over New Prague on Tuesday.
McGrath made 22 saves, including nine in the third period, and also fended off three Trojan power plays.
Heise scored 11 minutes, 49 seconds into the second on an assist from Solveig Roth, while Bryant netted a short-handed, unassisted goal at 11:38 of the third.
New Prague's Kaylee Brake faced 47 shots, and stopped 45 of them.
