Cross-Country: Red Wing reserves place third at K-M
Giving the usual varsity runners a break, the Red Wing boys' and girls' cross-country teams both placed third at the Kasson-Mantorville Invitational on Tuesday.
The boys, led by Caleb Korder, finished with 77 team points, one ahead of fourth-place Byron. Kasson-Mantorville won the boys' race with 22, followed by 59 for Northfield. K-M's Jace Minelli was the top individual runner with a time of 16 minutes, 59.6 seconds.
Korder finished the 5-kilometer race in 10th place at 17:58.3. Daniel Byers was 12th (18:18.5), Dylan Anderson 15th (18:24.9), James Smith 20th (18:41.9) and Cam Blue 23rd (19:03.6). Jackson Hull (27th, 19:16.6) and Noah Richardson (36th, 19:44.1) also competed for the Winger boys.
The girls also held a slim margin for third place with 74 points, besting Byron's 77. Northfield was the girls' leader with 25 points, with K-M in second with 62. Individually, K-M's Courtney West won with a time of 18:57.8.
Leading the Winger girls' pack was Serena Snider, placing 12th at 22:22.1. Behind her was Sydnee Nelson (15th, 22:31.5), Emily Eix (16th, 22:34.7), Teagan Cyr (19th, 23:27.5) and Reyana Leise (23rd, 23:54.0). Rounding out the lineup were Kassandra Nesser (31st, 25:12.1) and Mallory Bade (35th, 25:16.8).
On Tuesday, Oct. 24, Red Wing's top runners will compete in the Big Nine Conference championship at Brooktree Golf Course in Owatonna.
