Cross-Country: Wingers sweep New Prague invite

With Tom Nemanich placing first in 16 minutes, 17.8 seconds, the Red Wing boys' cross-country team rolled through the competition at the New Prague invitational on Tuesday afternoon.

The Winger boys were the top team with 23 points, followed by New Prague with 52 and Tri-City United with 110.

Behind Nemanich, Jonah Leise was third at 17:02.8, while Asa Beckner (fifth, 17:04.4), Bryan Zucker (sixth, 17:08.5) and Tucker Wallin (eighth, 17:16.8) all finished in the top 10. Although they didn't count toward the team score, Skyler Bennyhoff (17:38.8) and Weston Wyatt (17:41.4) were strong, placing 11th and 12th.

Cannon Falls also competed in New Prague, placing seventh with 178 points. James Watson was the Bombers' top runner (14th, 18:08.1), followed by Vinnie Davisson (39th, 20:36.4), Jacob Wulf (40th, 21:07.4), Tanner Schuttloffel (42nd, 21:43.7) and Gabe Hepola (43rd, 21:44.3).

The Red Wing girls were equally successful on Thursday, with a 1-2-3 finish helping the Wingers to 29 team points, beating New Prague's 39 and Le Sueur-Henderson's 74.

Tori Leitner was the top runner on Tuesday as the freshman crossed the finish line in 20:03.2. Grace Dube was second at 20:26.9 and Grace Johnson placed third at 20:28.5. Jasmyn Armstrong was 11th (21:09.0) and Sammi Chandler 12th (21:10.8). Carolyn Hanson (15th, 22:26.4) and Serenna Snider (23:58.8) rounded out Red Wing's squad.

Cannon Falls had two runners in the girls' race, with Casey Vagts placing 14th at 21:46.4 and Kristina Allen 22nd at 22:54.4.
