New fire truck on the way, more city council briefs

Saving money signing early

After much discussion, Red Wing City Council approved purchasing a fire truck next spring.

Engine 3 is 32 years old and 12 years beyond its replacement age. The funding would be pulled from the city's 2018 budget with delivery in April 2018. Council members on Monday approved $587,022 for the purchase.

By signing the contract agreement early, the city will receive a discount of $6,800. The city has not yet approved a 2018 budget.

Loans for homebuyers

The Affordable Housing Trust Fund was created in 2015 by Housing Redevelopment Authority and the City of Red Wing. City council members voted to approve 20% of the AHTF, with an initial allocation of $60,000 for 2017 and 2018, to be utilized for a Homebuyers Assistance Program to provide additional aid for those purchasing a house.

The unanimous approval by the council of this item will provide a $9,000 non-forgivable loan to an eligible homebuyer. Funds are pulled from a pipeline application process until they have been used by eligible applicants.
