Area Volleyball Wrap: K-W's upset bid falls short
Stewartville 3, Kenyon-Wanamingo 2
Kenyon-Wanamingo was close to knocking off second-ranked (Class 2A) Stewartville, going five sets with the perennial powerhouse. Ultimately, the Tigers were able to leave their home court with a Hiawatha Valley League victory against the Knights, 18-25, 19-25, 25-20, 25-14, 25-13.
"What a great and fun match to be a part of. I am proud of the girls, a little disappointed with the outcome, but both sides of the net worked hard for every point," said K-W head coach Jen Nerison. "Stewie is an amazing team and the atmosphere in Stewie was fun to play in. I felt we came out strong, had a strong start, we kept them out of system quite a bit so they weren't able to fully set up in their attack and I felt we were. We were passing great and able to attack in the front row. After the second set, our passing became inconsistent. We weren't getting as many blocks in the front and we were giving them some easy stuff over the net and they took advantage."
The Knights' top attacker was Ally Peterson with 22 kills along with 22 digs and three blocks. Corynne Dahl had 12 kills and four ace serves, Julianna Boyum had 10 kills, and Maddie McCauley and Madi Luebke had 27 and 20 set assists, respectively.
