Area Volleyball Wrap: Bombers rebound, beat Cougars

Cannon Falls 3, Z-M 1

After losing the first set, Cannon Falls came back to win the final three games in a 3-1 (23-25, 25-20, 25-19, 25-11) win over Zumbrota-Mazeppa on Tuesday.

Tatum Pickar racked up 40 digs over the four sets, and added seven kills to the winning effort. Shayla Hustad led the Bombers with 13 kills and five blocks, and Kara Loeschke had 27 assists.

Carly Frederickson's eight kills paced Z-M's offense, while Rylee Schliep's 12 digs were crucial to the defense.

Lourdes 3, Pine Island 1

Pine Island had its chances, but fell 3-1 (25-21, 25-18, 14-25, 25-23) to Rochester Lourdes on Tuesday.

Megan Quintero had a team-high eight kills for the Panthers, with Jordyn Mathison adding seven. Nicole Fall had 18 assists for Pine Island, and Katelyn Kennedy powered the defense with 12 digs.

Bethlehem Academy 3, Kenyon-Wanamingo 0

Kenyon-Wanamingo had a pair of players with double-digit kills, but fifth-ranked (Class 1A) Bethlehem Academy was able to take out the Knights in three sets, 25-23, 25-18, 27-25.

Megan Mattson had 11 kills with just two hitting errors, and Ally Peterson came up with 11 kills to go with nine digs. Maddie McCauley came up with 11 digs and a team-best 17 set assists, and Sydney Way had 11 digs and three ace serves.

PEM 3, Lake City 0

Lake City played a tight first set with Plainview-Elgin-Millville before the Bulldogs got the edge. And PEM never let up in a three-set non-conference win, 25-23, 25-18, 25-14.

Mackenzie Noll led the Tigers with nine kills while Morgan West led the back row with 14 digs.

For the Bulldogs, Heidi Wolf finished with seven kills, followed by six from Lauren Boyum.

Stewartville 3, Goodhue 0

Perennial Hiawatha Valley League powerhouse Stewartville made short work of Goodhue on Tuesday as the Tigers swept the Wildcats in three sets, 25-12, 25-8, 25-16.

Sydney Lodermeier paced Goodhue with 15 kills along with a pair of digs and an ace serve. Kate Opsahl finished with four kills and four blocks, Kennedy Buck tallied four kills and two ace serves, and Mariah Tipcke moved the ball around with 24 set assists.
