Urgent care to become Same Day Clinic
There will soon be a new name for urgent medical care in Red Wing.
The Urgent Care department at Mayo Clinic Health System in Red Wing will make the switch to Same Day Clinic starting Monday, Sept. 18. The clinic, open to all ages, will be available for appointments or walk-ins noon to 7:30 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on weekends.
Urgent Care currently operates on a policy of first come, first served, without an appointment option.
"If we're not able to schedule a same-day appointment for a patient with his or her primary care provider, or another primary care provider, then our Same Day Clinic may be a great option, especially on the weekends," said Dr. Brian Whited, CEO of Mayo Clinic Health System in Cannon Falls, Lake City and Red Wing, in a news release. "We believe patients will have better access to care and an overall improved experience as a result of these changes."
Conditions that can be treated at Same Day Clinic include:
• Minor sprains or strains
• Sore throat
• Ear pain
• Bladder or urinary tract infection
• Minor burns
• Acute eye problems
Patients wishing to use Same Day Clinic will enter the building at the main entrance and check in at the main registration desk, instead of using the Emergency Department entrance.
Patients needing care outside of Same Day Clinic hours and those who require more complex care will be sent to the Emergency Department.
Primary Care clinic hours will remain unchanged, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays. To schedule an appointment, call 651-267-5000.
