Area Soccer Wrap: PIZM picks up first win over Lake City

In a battle of winless teams on Tuesday, Pine Island/Zumbrota-Mazeppa used three second-half goals to secure a 4-1 victory against Lake City.

Melaina Distad finished with a pair of goals for the Wildcats, with Sara Schartau and Lana Yeakel also finding the back of the net for PIZM. In goal, Roslind Anderson came up with one save in the victory.

Ashley Veronen provided the lone goal for the Tigers, and goalkeeper Carley Platte stopped 21 shots in the loss.

Then on Thursday, PIZM was unable to carry that momentum into win No. 2 with a 5-1 loss to Stewartville. Claudia Gunhus scored for the Wildcats, helping to tie the game 1-1 at halftime. Anderson came up with five saves as PIZM moves to 1-5.

For the second time in three games, the Pine Island/Zumbrota-Mazeppa boys' soccer team finished a game with a tie, reaching a 2-2 standstill with Stewartville on Tuesday.

Danny Krier and Samuel Nordquist both tallied goals, with Conner Heitman finishing with an assist for the Wildcats. Goalkeeper Max Smothers finished with seven saves.
