Cross-Country: Red Wing teams topple field in Hastings
HASTINGS — Both the Red Wing boys' and girls' cross-country teams conquered the field at the Dewey Minnaert Invitational Thursday at St. Croix Regional Park.
With four runners finishing in the top 10, the Winger girls beat the competition with a team score of 36 points, besting East Ridge (54) and St. Paul Central (76).
Grace Johnson led the Red Wing pack with a second-place time of 20 minutes, 0.47 seconds, followed by Ariana Mollgaard in third (20:04.25) and Grace Dube in fourth (20:04.76). Tori Leitner was ninth at 20:47.15, and Jasmyn Armstrong 18th in 21:36.38. Carolyn Hanson (33rd, 22:33.79) and Serenna Snider (44th, 23:34.73) also competed for the Red Wing girls.
Winning the top individual honors for the girls was Woodbury's Tiffany Holiday with a first-place time of 19:50.19.
The Winger boys showcased a similar level of success with five runners in the top 16 en route to a first-place score of 46. East Ridge followed with 85, and St. Paul Central and Woodbury was tied for third with 87.
Tom Nemanich put forth a second-place showing for Red Wing, crossing the finish line at 16:26.57. Tucker Wallin was sixth overall at 16:45.07, and Jonah Leise snuck into the top 10 with a time of 17:04.77. Weston Wyatt placed 12th at 17:08.15, and Bryan Zucker capped off the team score with a 16th-place score of 17:19.68. Also running with the varsity were Asa Beckner (18th, 17:25.86) and Skyler Bennyhoff (22nd, 17:38.13).
The top individual runner was Eagan's Trenton Allen at 16:23.11.
On Thursday, Sept. 14, Red Wing will head to Eastwood Golf Course in Rochester for an invite hosted by Rochester Mayo.
