Let's talk Patriot Hearts

Come visit the History Center for a book talk on the World War I pride and prejudice that divided people across Minnesota, including Goodhue, Jackson and Martin counties from 6-7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 11, in the Gunderson House, 107 Gunderson Blvd., Kenyon.

Frederick L. Johnson's book, "Patriot Hearts: World War I Passion and Prejudice in a Minnesota County" retells the largely forgotten 1917-18 Minnesota story in microcosm, using the example of Goodhue as the state's most ethnically and politically polarized county.

Goodhue County Historical Society published Johnson's story June 2017.

Johnson has 12 books about Minnesota history, along with numerous magazine articles in journals including Minnesota History, Aviation History, MinnPost and more. The American Association for State and Local History gave his 2008 book "Richfield: Minnesota's Oldest Suburb," a special award for exceptional scholarship.

Book Talk: Patriot Hearts is sponsored by the Kenyon Public Library, Kenyon Area Historical Society, Goodhue County Historical Society and the Red Wing Shoe Company Foundation.
