Red Wing School Board briefs

District-owned lot sale approved

District business manager Jackie Paradis presented an $18,000 purchase agreement between the district's real estate agent, Lawrence Realty, and Tom Wendt for a lot at 328 Goodhue St. N. The lot is located near Red Wing High School. The district listed four single-family lots for sale in August, Paradis said, with the first offer from Wendt on the smallest lot coming in February.

The original asking price for the lot was $24,900. Wendt's first offer of $16,000, Paradis said, was followed by counter offers from both parties until the Operations Committee settled an $18,000 offer.

"Ultimately, we're looking to make some money off of these lots," board member and operations committee member Steve Anderson said. "This particular lot is rather unusual — it is a triangular shape with a hill which will limit the size of home that can be built."

Anderson said the operations committee was aware that the unique size of the lot would draw offers below the listed price.

"As soon as someone starts developing, it will make the other lots more appealing," he said.

The board unanimously approved the resolution by a roll call vote.
