MCHS leadership seeking bright medical team

Mayo Clinic Health System has a new position but has filled it with familiar face.

Dr. David Agerter has been named to director of Academic Strategy and Development for MCHS. Agerter will work to strengthen medical education and residency opportunities at Mayo-owned clinics and hospitals across the Midwest, including Red Wing, Cannon Falls and Lake City, the health system announced last week.

He also will lead efforts to increase and diversify the medical research taking place in the health system.

"Enriching the academic environment across Mayo Clinic Health System benefits everyone," said Dr. Bobbie Gostout, a Mayo Clinic vice president. "Our providers and other care team members have additional opportunities for professional growth and development and are able to pursue the passions that led them to a career in medicine. Even more importantly, our patients and communities benefit as we attract the brightest graduates to our medical residency programs and foster research that advances the science and creates the future of medicine."

Agerter practices family medicine in the Albert Lea/Austin area.

He has overseen the growing family medicine residency program in the region and his most visible role has been that of regional vice president, including Goodhue County.

A search will begin soon for a new regional vice president. A late summer transition is planned to allow time for the two leaders to work together, MCHS said.

Valerie Becker of Red Wing has won several prestigious framing competitions. Now she will help oversee them.

She has joined the International Framing Competition Board. The Professional Picture Framers Association's board made the appointment at its annual Conference in January.

The International Framing Competition Board is responsible for all framing competitions, approval and accreditation of judges and the review and updates of the framing design standards and judging criteria.

"I am excited to be working with creative framing experts from all over the world. This is a professional honor for me and I will be a better framer from this experience," Becker said of her three-year term.

A master certified picture framer as designated by the PPFA, she owns and operates Red Wing Framing & Fine Art Printing and Rochester Framing & Fine Art Printing.

Lacy Schumann has joined the Red Wing Arts Association's permanent staff.

She started working with the nonprofit in September as a temporary staff member and now will be in charge of artistic operations, serving as the primary contact for artists, managing the consignments for the shop and coordinating Depot Gallery events.
