Amateur Baseball: Aces secure home win over Minneapolis Angels
Red Wing scored four times in the first inning, and added another run in the fourth, for an easy 5-0 victory over the Minneapolis Angels on Tuesday.
Brodie Smith and Mitch Matter singled to open the bottom of the first, and both scored on Tait Kelly’s single two batters later. Dixon Irwin then doubled, followed by JT Cunningham’s RBI single. Josh Thygesen’s run-scoring single came next as the Aces took a 4-0 lead before Minneapolis could record a second out.
In the fourth, Matter singled home Joel Newman.
Matter led the offense with three hits, while Cunningham and Newman each had a pair of hits.
Sam Palmatier went all nine innings to get the win. Palmatier allowed seven hits and struck out four Angels, and did not issue a walk.
Kirby Morsching took the loss for Minneapolis, giving up five earned runs on nine hits over four innings. Mike Carrell was the only Angel with two hits.
On Wednesday, the Aces had to forfeit their Classic Cannon Valley League game against Lake City.
After facing Burnsville on Friday for a non-league game, Red Wing’s final regular season game is scheduled for Sunday, at home, against Northfield.
