Letter: Take step toward unity and peace
To the Editor:
The time is right to get together for a Unity Peace Walk in Red Wing. It is a time for all cultures and nationalities to walk and talk side by side so we can share our visions for the future of our community. The mission is also to not only respect each other's ways, but understand that we all want a drug- and violence-free city. This we can do together.
Please join me along with the Human Rights Commission and many others at noon Sunday at Twin Bluff Middle School. After a blessing by spiritual leader Ray Owens, we will walk to Central Park via Twin Bluff Road and West Avenue. A water stop will be available at the halfway mark.
Once at the park, we will have refreshments and watch some ethnic entertainment. The event will take place rain or shine. Those who choose not to walk may join the others at the park around 1:30.
Those involved in organizing this event are Minnesota Correctional Facility-Red Wing, Winfred Red Cloud in memory of Dave White, the Red Wing High School Diversity Group, and the Hispanic Outreach of Goodhue County. The Unity Peace Walk is open to all and we highly encourage children to participate.
Donna Dummer is mayor.
