Unity Peace Walk is planned to unite all races and cultures

A Unity Peace Walk from Twin Bluff Middle School to Central Park is planned for Sunday. Sponsored by Mayor Donna Dummer, the city and the Red Wing Human Rights Commission, the event will begin at noon in the school parking lot, where Ray Owen of the Prairie Island Indian Community will give a send-off blessing.

"We invite people of all races and cultures to join in the walk to promote unity, understanding and cross-cultural dialogue," Human Rights Commission spokesmen said. "There will be no need for banners or placards of any sort -- the walking together is the symbol of the message that we all wish to eliminate the influence of drugs and gangs on our community."

The walk will proceed via Twin Bluff Road and West Avenue to Central Park, where there will be refreshments and entertainment. A water stop is planned near Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1534 West Ave. People who do not participate in the walk are invited to join the group at the park, where festivities will begin around 1:30 p.m.
