Rep. Hortman speaking at AAUW program
State Rep. Melissa Hortman will speak at a local American Association of University Women program at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, at Red Wing Presbyterian Church, 503 W. Sixth St. The event is open to the public and will start with a 6:30 p.m. social.
She will offer an inside view of what it's like to lead in a "man's" world. Earlier this year she made news for scolding male colleagues for playing cards during a floor debate.
Hortman ran three times to win, first elected in 2004. She's married with two adult children and lives in Brooklyn Park, Minn. Hortman is an attorney, has a degree in political science/philosophy from Boston University, and a juris doctor from the University of Minnesota. She is enrolled in the Harvard University Kennedy School MPA program, with a focus on climate change.
