Red Wing company fined for air quality violations
A fine against SB Foot Tanning Co. was one of 48 enforcement cases in 33 counties completed by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency in the second quarter of 2017. The company was penalized $3,760 for air quality violations, according to a July 27 news release.
Environmental enforcement investigations most often end in negotiated settlements with the goal of moving into compliance with environmental rules, the MPCA says. Fines are targeted to match the environmental harm, economic advantage gained or environmental corrective actions. Cases can involve courts in rare instances and not all investigations lead to fines or other official action.
Penalties for all 48 cases totaled just over $450,000. The MPCA has 41 ongoing enforcement investigations.
