Red Wing City Council briefs
Solar projects approved
The City Council unanimously approved more city solar projects.
The city has received funding from Xcel Energy and the state of Minnesota and also is working with Newport Partners for financing on top of its contributions. The council on Monday approved spending $34,369 from the contingency fund.
The project would include a carport structure built over the parking lot behind City Hall that would include solar panels. City Hall and the Ignite building would share the panels. The other planned solar project would be a carport for the Public Works building and maintenance shop.
Jay McCleary, deputy director of public works, said the city of Red Wing has always been "progressive" but the solar project "makes us proactive."
Monday's City Council meeting lasted about three hours and 15 minutes before members went into a closed session to discuss Mississippi National Golf Links litigation. All members were present.
