Council passes revised 2011 levy and budget
Red Wing City Council passed a 2011 property tax levy and budget Monday significantly different than the ones Mayor John Howe vetoed Dec. 17.
Council approved a .46 percent increase to its levy -- compared to a 2 percent increase that was passed Dec. 13 -- and nixed two nixed two controversial franchise fees that were included in the previously approved budget.
To help make up for the cuts in revenue, council also cut some $383,000 out of next year's operating budget.
During Monday's meeting Howe said he would veto neither the levy nor the budget.
