Goodhue County Board briefs

Zoning assistant OK’d

Goodhue County Board on Tuesday approved hiring a zoning assistant to fill a recent vacancy. The matter was tabled Oct. 6 to discuss possible fee increases to help offset the costs of the new employee.

Commissioner Ron Allen, who originally opposed the replacement, said he changed his mind after meeting with Land-Use Management Director Lisa Hanni.

“I talked with Lisa in-depth and I think she needs that position,” he said, forwarding the motion with a second by Commissioner Dan Rechtzigel.

Vehicle replacement put on hold

Commissioners voted unanimously to push back replacing a 2007 pickup truck with just over 100,000 miles and put the money into reserves.

Public Works Director Greg Isakson said delaying equipment repairs and replacements disrupts the county’s schedule designed to keep budget requests consistent each year.

“I don’t have any problem if we want to change it … but we need help trying to meet your policy,” Isakson said.

A discussion on the capital replacement schedule will be held at a future Committee of the Whole meeting.
