Red Wing School Board briefs

2014-15 school calendar

The calendar for the 2014-15 school year, now in its fourth draft, is expected to be solidified within the next month for the Red Wing School District.

Citing desire from parents and staff, Supt. Karsten Anderson said the calendar committee has reduced the number of early release days and is looking at trying to incorporate a spring break. In a survey sent out regarding the schedule for the upcoming year, Anderson said parents expressed interest in seeing a break sometime around late February or early March.

Generally, Anderson said, the early release days didn’t garner much support; they can be disruptive to parents’ schedules as well as the learning environment.

Some concern arose surrounding the weekend currently planned for homecoming because of conflicts with out-of-town sporting events. Anderson said that can be addressed when it’s time to finalize the schedule.
