Red Wing School Board briefs

Support personnel contracts OK'd

Red Wing School Board approved 6-0 new contracts with the support personnel group for the 2011-12 and 2012-13 school years. The new contracts include pay raises comparable to other bargaining units' settlements, Supt. Karsten Anderson said.

In general, the group will receive a .5 percent salary increase each year, with the top step receiving a 1 percent increase for 2011-12 and a 2 percent increase for 2012-13.

Changes also were made to health insurance contributions. Previously, the district contributed just over $500 for a single plan and about $1,100 to a family plan. Those contributions declined to $450 and $850, respectively. The new plan also pays $75 a month into an HRA.

"We're very pleased to recommend the settlement," Anderson said.

The support personnel group had 147 members in 2011-12 and 133 in 2012-13. The district expects that the retroactive salary payments will be made in September.

Meeting watch

The business portion of Monday's meeting lasted about 20 minutes before the board began a training session about working together as a board. That meeting lasted until just after 8 p.m., Board Chair Heidi Jones said. All board members were present, though Emily Baldwin arrived about five minutes late and Paul Kramp arrived about 30 minutes late.
