Budget recommendation set for 2011

ELLSWORTH -- The Ellsworth Village Board unanimously approved a new one-year contract with union employees Monday and received the unanimous recommendation of the financing, purchasing and buildings committee to approve the village operating budget for 2011.

The contract calls for a wage adjustment of 2 percent starting Jan. 1 and 1 percent starting July 1, with a change in language on longevity pay back from Jan. 1, 1989, to the date of hire.

The proposed 2011 budget will spend $3,136,889, leaving a shortfall of $597,412 as compared to revenues. Village department heads cut $106,000 from their budgets, leaving the difference of $491,412 to be covered by undesignated surplus account.

Revenues were down $201,377 due to a drop in interest rates on investments and debt revenue from TID 7, which is the Crossing Meadows development.

There will be a public hearing on the budget Dec. 6 before the regular board meeting at 7 p.m.

In other finance matters, the board voted to refinance a $780,000 loan from the State Trust to help pay for renovating the village wastewater treatment plant.
