Be on the lookout for a new event center at 15251 Old Childrens Home Road in Welch owned by Scott Hanson. Goodhue County Board commissioners approved the conditional-use permit for the facility Tuesday night, which anticipates an average of about 80 weddings each year, with up to 300 guests.
Traffic issues and hours were discuss during a previous planning commission meeting.
The venue will operate will be no later than midnight, with security, on Friday and Saturday only. Weekday events may be held 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. for up to 50 people, with a maximum of five events per week with only one per day.
Regarding potential odor from surrounding farms, Lisa Hanni, county surveyor and recorder, mentioned the owner will be informing guests of what to expect.
"This is the country. If you're not coming from a farm community into a farm community ... that's why we are suggesting they notify their guests."
With the permit, the owner has up to a year to get the facility running. The business will be operated by the applicants with assistance from one to five other employees.
Tuesday's County Board lasted 25 minutes. All five commissioners were present.
