Goodhue County Board briefs

Local ag honorees recognized

Goodhue County Soil and Water Conservation District recognized three award-winners at the County Board meeting Thursday.

The Frontenac Sportsman's Club won the Wildlife Habitat Award, the Conservation Farmer award went to Bill Budenseik of Minneola Township and SWCD gave the Woodland Manager award to Jim Thomford, who manages property east of Pine Island.

The Goodhue County Farm Family of the Year also was recognized at the County Board meeting. It was Rae Rusnak and her son Leo, who have a 72-acre farm in Kenyon. The farm produces organically grown vegetables, and includes maple trees, laying hens and turkeys.

The Rusnaks sell vegetables to local schools districts as part of the Farm to School lunch program and sell vegetables and eggs to area food cooperatives and independent grocers, a staff report said.
