School Board briefs: Summer program on track to serve 13K free lunches

Legislative update

Rep. Barb Haley provided an update to board members on the 2017 legislative session. Haley said lawmakers will invest $1.35 billion into the state's classrooms over the next biennium.

"This budget will provide a 2 percent funding increase in 2018 and 2019 to help districts keep up with inflation costs," Haley said.

Haley said the state also appropriated an additional $50 million for early education programs.

The reform to the state's teacher licensure program, she said, will help address the state's teacher shortage.
