Seven candidates vie for Red Wing School Board

As the election filing period closed Tuesday evening, seven candidates emerged for four open seats on the Red Wing School Board. Mike Christensen, Janie Farrar, Tim Hudacek, Heidi Jones, Brett Olmsted, Pam Roe and Mark Ryan filed affidavits of candidacy during the two-week filing period.

The last contested board election was in 2010, when voters saw four candidates running for three open seats. The elections in 2012 and 2014 were both uncontested.

The board passed a resolution 7-0 at Monday night’s meeting to hold the school district general election Nov. 8 in conjunction with national and state races. The four people elected to the school board will each serve a four-year term. Per the eligibility requirements of the Minnesota School Board Association, candidates must be at least 21 years old, an eligible voter, a district resident for at least 30 days prior to election/appointment and not convicted of a felony.

Christensen, Farrar, Jones and Ryan are current board members, seeking re-election as their terms expire this year.
