New principals to begin July 1

Red Wing Public Schools concluded its search — pending School Board approval — Tuesday to fill two principal positions within the district.

The open positions resulted from the creation of a new director of support services role — which the district assigned to current Red Wing High School Principal Beth Borgen — and the retirement of Sunnyside Elementary Principal Patti Roberts, who has been with the district for 34 years.

Todd Herber, assistant principal at Woodbury High School, will take over as RWHS principal. Jeremy Sorenson, assistant principal at Whittier International Elementary in Minneapolis will fill the Sunnyside Elementary position. Each will start July 1.

“We are confident that we have found an enthusiastic leader with high expectations for our kids,” Supt. Karsten Anderson said of Herber. “And we are proud of the inclusive hiring process we used that involved parents, teachers, board members and administrators.”

Herber is coming from a school of around 1,700 students and was one of three assistant principals.

Whittier International Elementary serves around 600 students.

“Jeremy has a lot of experience enhancing student achievement by using data,” Anderson said. “We are especially pleased that he has experience working with children from diverse backgrounds and with special needs.”
