Site sold to ELC

Red Wing School Board unanimously approved the sale of a lot to the Environmental Learning Center for $40,000 Monday night.

The lot, which is located at 442 Homestead Lane near Red Wing High School, is separated from other district property by Guernsey Lane and is 3.56

“Looking it over we don’t feel it is a long-range use for the school district,” Finance Director Brad Johnson said.

Johnson said the ELC expressed an interest in the property and, after exchanging offers, the parties reached an agreement.

“We’ve had a great partnership with the ELC probably since back when I was in school,” Johnson said.

Jason Jech, executive director of the ELC, said the partnership has lasted 43 years.

Johnson said the district will do everything it can to expedite the process and the closing should take about six weeks.

The property is part of the district’s reacquisition of the Riverbank property, which took place in June.

The Environmental Learning Center currently uses a building at the Anderson Center.

Jech indicated the ELC will launch a capital campaign
