Abuse/maltreatment investigated at Jefferson School
Red Wing Police reported that they are investigating an abuse/maltreatment case involving a child and employee at Jefferson School.
Goodhue County Educational District Director Cherie Johnson said the case occurred in the Upwards program, which serves kindergarten through 12th-grade children with autism and cognitive disorders. She said the program only has 11 children in it and is the smallest program GCED has.
Johnson added that she could not comment on the ongoing investigation.
"Our top concern is the health and safety of our students. At this time, I can say all of our students are safe," she said. "We're working with the Minnesota Department of Education and the local police department to resolve the issue. We're cooperating fully."
The Minnesota Department of Education could not confirm or discuss any ongoing investigation, Deputy Communications Director Keith Hovis said.
