Simons accepts Z-M supt. position

Anthony Simons, current superintendent of Elkton, S.D., Public Schools, has accepted the superintendent position at Zumbrota-Mazeppa Schools.

The School Board is negotiating a contract with him, Chairman James Wendt said.

Simons has five years experience as a superintendent, all at Elkton schools. He also has 14 years experience as a middle and elementary school principal and experience as an athletic director. In his resume, Simons calls himself an "advocate for all children."

Previously, the board had offered the position to Steven Wymore of Baudette, Minn. But negotiations with Wymore broke off last week. Wendt did not say who ended the negotiations. Simons was the other finalist chosen by the board in early March.

"We're very pleased with the way things worked out," Wendt said.

Current Supt. Richard Meyerhofer announced in December that he will retire at the end of this school year, after working for the district for 34 years.

Simons' first day in the district will be in July, Wendt said.
