Vandals cause $9K in damage over long weekend
Red Wing police say those responsible for what appears to be a string of vandalisms over Memorial Day weekend could face felony charges after causing thousands of dollars in damages. Police received 18 reports of smashed car windows, slashed tires and spray painting concentrated in the South Park neighborhood.
Each report listed damages ranging from $100 to $3,000 for an estimated total of just under $9,000.
Vandalism also was reported at Red Wing High School, where the parking lot and sidewalk had been spraypainted, and the former St. Joseph’s School building, where a window was smashed, causing $300 in damages.
Police Capt. Gordon Rohr said the parties responsible are likely juveniles acting in a group. If charged, they could face felony charges, which the county attorney could apply as aggregate charges for each suspect due to time period and location of the crimes.
“If anybody has information, we certainly urge them to come forward so we can get this case resolved and get the parties responsible,” Rohr said.
