UPDATED: Man critical after apparent assault at Border Lounge
A 28-year-old man was listed in critical condition at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester Sunday night after suffering injuries in an apparent fight at the Border Lounge just after midnight Sunday.
Nicholas A. Wadsworth, Port Clinton, Ohio, was transported by Red Wing Fire Department to the Mayo Clinic Health System in Red Wing and then later transferred to St. Mary’s Mayo Hospital in Rochester about 1 a.m., Sunday, reports Pierce County sheriff’s deputy Donny Knutson in a news release
Deputies responded to a call of fight in progress at the Border Lounge, N1620 County Highway V in the town of Trenton at 12:47 a.m. Arriving just two minutes later, they found Wadsworth lying unconscious on the ground near the front door.
A posting on the Giveforward.org fundraising web site stated Wadsworth was in Minnesota working on an "outage" -- an apparent reference to ongoing work at the Prairie Island Nuclear Plant near Red Wing.
It stated that Wadsworth is in a coma and funds raised would be used to send his girlfriend, one-year-old son and two brothers to Minnesota to visit him.
Two suspects -- Devin Williams, 20, and Julian Smith, 23, both of Red Wing, were arrested. Williams was booked under felony substantial battery and Smith for possession of THC, unlawful possession of prescriptions, felony delivering illegal articles to inmate, duty to aid victim or report crime. The Pierce County Sheriff's office announced Wednesday morning in a news release Smith was charged with aggravated battery and released on a $7,500 signature bond. Williams was released pending further investigation per the District Attorney's office.
Knutson said the case remains under investigation.
