Red Wing man charged with criminal sexual conduct

Following a report to Red Wing police on July 20 of a juvenile who was sexually assaulted, Red Wing investigators conducted an interview with Shane Allen Braford, during which he admitted to having sexual contact with the victim, who was known to him, according to a criminal complaint filed July 24 in Goodhue County District Court.

Braford, 37, Red Wing, faces three felony second-degree criminal sexual conduct charges, a fifth-degree criminal sexual conduct charge and an indecent exposure charge, which are both gross misdemeanors.

The victim alleged that between June 2013 and July 20 Braford kissed her on several occasions, exposed himself to her and forced her to touch his genitals, the complaint states.

According to the complaint the victim said Braford told her to “not tell anybody or you’re going to get into big trouble.”

Braford allegedly also touched the victim sexually while giving her a back massage.

The complaint states that Braford told authorities that “it was never meant to happen” and he wished he could “undo it.”

Each felony charge carries a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison and a $35,000 fine, and both gross misdemeanor charges are punishable by one year in jail and a $3,000 fine.

Braford’s next scheduled court appearance is Aug. 14.
