Police warn about unlicensed taxis
Red Wing Police are warning residents about a taxicab company that may possibly be operating in Red Wing without a license.
Chief Roger Pohlman said that city code makes it illegal to drive or operate a taxi in Red Wing without a license from the city.
"A company that is not licensed by the city of Red Wing is not permitted to operate in the city," Pohlman said.
Pohlman said that citizens should make sure that the taxi they hire is visibly displaying license tags, including the number and year for which the license is issued. Taxicabs must display external taxi markings; both sides of every cab must be plainly and permanently marked as a taxicab showing the full or abbreviated name of the licensed operator.
A violation of the code can carry a fine up to $2,000 and can result in punishment as a misdemeanor.
