Father, son return to burglary in progress

A father and son returned to their Larson Lane house Saturday to find a man robbing it. According to a court complaint filed in Goodhue County District Court March 4, Prairie Island tribal police were dispatched to 1879 Larson Lane at about 11:30 a.m.

The homeowner told police that he and his son had been gone for a couple hours and when they returned home, they saw their garage door open and a man running away.

Before police arrived, the father chased the man, identified in the complaint as Zachary Allan Jacobson, 21, Hayfield, Minn. The homeowner told Jacobson to stop running, and Jacobson did so, stating he was cooperating because he didn't want to go to jail, the complaint says.

Police arrested Jacobson and found methamphetamine and two marijuana pipes in his pockets, the complaint says.

Several of the homeowner's items were found near where Jacobson was apprehended, including a wallet, fishing poles and fishing tackle. It also appeared as though a car parked in the garage and the garage itself had been gone through.

Jacobson is facing second-degree burglary, fifth-degree drug possession, receiving stolen property and drug paraphernalia possession charges. He will make his first court appearance April 5.
