Man robs Red Wing liquor store

Police arrested a Red Wing man Wednesday night following a robbery and assault at Liquor King, 827 Main St.

Ross Girdeen, 26, was arrested on aggravated robbery charges after allegedly robbing the store and assaulting a clerk.

According to Red Wing police, Girdeen had attempted to buy a bottle of alcohol, but didn't have enough money and was too intoxicated to be sold alcohol. When the clerk refused the sale, Girdeen allegedly fled the store with the bottle. The clerk chased him into the parking lot where he hit the clerk over the head with the bottle, police said.

Girdeen fled, but police later apprehended him in John Rich Park. He was subsequently arrested on charges of first degree aggravated robbery, assault, trespassing and theft.
