Civil suits filed in MCF-Red Wing sex case

Suzanne Walstrom, a former correctional officer at Minnesota Correctional Facility-Red Wing, already faces criminal charges for allegedly sexually assaulting three boys while they were inmates there.

Now Walstrom, 38, of Plum City, is facing civil lawsuits from two of the alleged victims.

Devondre Lamont Lindsey and Darrelle Ray Moore - now both adults - filed separate lawsuits in Ramsey County District Court this week, each citing damages caused by sexual assaults.

Each suit says Walstrom had sexual conduct with the plaintiff, that the conduct was "offensive" to the plaintiff and that Walstrom intended each plaintiff to "experience apprehension or fear of her immediate contact."

The lawsuits also list Tom Roy and Joan Fabian, commissioners of the Minnesota Department of Corrections and Otis Zanders, superintendent of MCF-RW, as defendants.

Walstrom currently faces three counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct and one count of third-degree criminal sexual conduct.

The criminal complaints, filed in March and May 2010, allege Walstrom forced one of the inmates to fondle her and that she fondled two other inmates.

Walstrom's next court date for the criminal charges is April 1.
