Man sentenced for lighting Barn Bluff aflame
Burn down Barn Bluff and you'll pay. That was the message sent Friday by the courts when a 20-year-old Red Wing man was sentenced to two years on probation and 100 hours of community service.
Marcos Lopez pleaded guilty Friday to wildfire arson, a felony. He admitted to joining others in lighting a portion of the bluff ablaze on March 14.
But First District Judge Thomas Bibus decided that if Lopez does not violate terms of probation - which include abstinence from alcohol, no possession of firearms and undergoing numerous evaluations - the conviction will be wiped from his record. Bibus also ordered Lopez to pay a $200 fine, calling it "a deterrent to behavior like this."
