Former St. James employee sentenced in swindle case
The former St. James Hotel controller who fleeced his employer for almost a half-million dollars must pay restitution, serve jail time and obey extensive probation conditions.
Brian Roland Ackerman, 46, pleaded guilty Monday to theft by swindle, a felony that called for a maximum prison sentence of 10 years. He received a lighter sentence in exchange for a confession to thefts that occurred outside the state's statute of limitations.
His attorney said the plea also means no charges will be filed against his wife, who prosecutors said spent some of the money Ackerman took from the hotel.
