Say 'I do' with P.S. I Love U
A new Red Wing business is aiming to help shoppers with a formal dress code to follow.
P.S. I Love U, a formal wear boutique, opened in August in the historic pottery district on Old West Main Street.
Store manager Cassidy Smith said the idea came from her recent wedding and two younger sisters' homecoming and prom dances.
"To shop for dresses, we had to either drive to the Twin Cities or Rochester," Smith said.
Smith said her mother, Malissa Parrott-Stahnke, saw the need for a bridal and formal wear shop in Red Wing — leading to the creation of P.S. I Love U.
The store offers a large variety of wedding essentials and formal wear for any occasion.
For Smith, wedding stresses are fresh on her mind — she was married earlier this year.
"I feel like I can relate so much to what the brides are going through because I just went through that myself. Whatever they may be struggling with, or where they may have questions, we have the experience and resources to help," she said.
P.S. I Love U is arranged to accommodate large groups during the shopping process.
Smith said it is common for brides to bring family and friends along, but advises brides to have an idea of what they want before they start shopping.
"It's important to realize that you will probably change ideas when you start trying on dresses," Smith said. "Be open to try different styles on. In reality when you come and try on a style you saw online, it might work differently with your body type. Be open to suggestions from friends and family, but ultimately it's your day — it's your dress."
With tuxedos, Smith said many men do not know how a tuxedo should properly fit.
"Most styles today are more of a slim fit over the traditional modern fit," she said.
By going to professionals for tuxedo purchasing and rentals, Smith said wedding parties can cut down on any difficulties.
"With a proper fit from the start, there will be less exchanges and last-minute stressors," she said.
Something borrowed, something blue
P.S. I Love U will be offering linen and decoration rentals starting in October. The store will be taking over the inventory of Wedding Originals, also located on Old West Main Street.
Beyond bridal gowns and tuxedos, the store offers mother-of-the-bride, flower-girl and bridesmaid dresses. A unique feature, Smith said, is a line of shoes that can be dyed over 60 colors to match any dress. Bachelorette party essentials and honeymoon retail are also available.
"We have a dress for any occasion," Smith said. "Whether for a wedding or prom, homecoming or formal dance, we have a style for everyone."
