60 firefighters respond to Red Wing waste campus fire


The Red Wing Solid Waste Campus sustained significant damage due to a fire Wednesday night, June 7, according to Red Wing Fire Department. The blaze was reported around 7:45 p.m. inside the facility. No injuries were reported.

The scene remained active as of a 9:34 p.m. update Wednesday, and residents were asked to avoid the area around 1873 Bench St. to allow for proper response by fire and police.

Sixty firefighters from four cities responded to the fire call, according to Red Wing Fire Chief Shannon Draper in a news release.

Refuse and recycling will be picked up at normal times Thursday, June 8, the city announced

The Solid Waste Campus manages the recycling of commodities, construction and demolition, industrial, residential and commercial waste generated in the city as well as surrounding communities in Goodhue County and Wabasha County, according to the city website.
