Maiden Rock woman found dead at Pierce County crash scene

The search for a missing Maiden Rock woman ended Thursday when her body was found in a car at the scene of an apparent crash.

The Pierce County Sheriff's Office identified the victim as 64-year-old Kathleen J. McCabe. Deputies were alerted to the crash at 11:08 a.m. Thursday on Highway 35 just south of County Road D in the town of Isabelle.

McCabe was found dead at the scene of the crash. Deputies determined the 2004 Toyota Camry she was in was northbound on Highway 35 when it failed to negotiate a curve in the road and crashed into a ditch, where it struck trees.

According to a sheriff's office news release, authorities had been actively searching for McCabe "due to the fact that during the evening of June 29, 2016, she was reported to have left her residence (en) route to a specific destination and had not arrived.

The crash remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office.
