Two killed in Memorial Day crash

TOWN OF ELLSWORTH -- A man and woman from the Twin Cities died in the Town of Ellsworth early Monday evening after their motorcycle struck a vehicle that was attempting to turn east off Hwy. 10.

James D. Marinaro, 58, of New Brighton and Denise M. Thomas, 52, of Blaine, Minn., were both pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the 6:11 p.m. crash.

Pierce County sheriff's deputy Andrew Thoms said the accident happened when Marinaro and Thomas -- traveling westbound on Hwy. 10 at 450th Avenue on a 1994 Harley Davidson motorcycle -- struck a 1995 Ford Explorer being driven by Brieanna K. Davis, 20, of Ellsworth.

Davis was attempting to make a left turn to travel east on 450th, Thoms said in a press release.

Both Marinaro and Thomas were ejected on impact and both vehicles started on fire.

Ellsworth EMS and fire personnel responded, along with sheriff's deputies and Ellsworth Police.

The Wisconsin State Patrol is assisting with a reconstruction of the accident, Thoms said.

The crash remains under investigation.
