Highway 52 reopens in Pine Island after semi cleared; storms batter area
A semi-trailer driver avoided injury early Friday after the truck he was driving jack-knifed on Highway 52 near Pine Island while storms passed through the area.
The semi, driven by Donald Semann, 54, Sparta, Wis., closed both northbound lanes of Highway 52 after the 3:57 a.m. incident, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. Traffic was reopened at 5:30 a.m.
The incident occurred during heavy storms in the area, which included a tornado warning issued in Goodhue County.
Goodhue County sheriff' deputies responded to numerous weather-related calls after the storms, including power lines down near a Wanamingo school and reports of down power lines draped across a Pine Island house.
Besides heavy lightning and thunder, the storm brought heavy rains to at least one portion of the county. A trained spotter reported receiving 3.5 inches of rain in Dennison, according to the National Weather Service.
