U.S. Lock and Dam No. 3 in Red Wing will be open until Dec. 12, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said.
The St. Paul District, which extends into Iowa, will close its Minneapolis locks Sunday, Nov. 19. These include the Lower St. Anthony Falls lock and Lock and Dam No. 1; the Upper St. Anthony Falls lock is also closed to commercial traffic.
The district's locks to the south will officially stay open until at least Dec. 12, when Lock and Dam No. 10, near Guttenberg, Iowa, will close for the season. The closure date is subject to change pending environmental factors — such as the formation of ice — that could dictate an earlier closure.
The nearly 600 U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, employees work at more than 40 sites in five upper-Midwest states. For more information, see www.mvp.usace.army.mil.
