Brief overnight stoppages on Highway 52
Motorists using Highway 52 at Cannon Falls will be stopped in both directions for 15-minute periods overnight Monday, June 26, for crews to place bridge beams.
The work is expected to begin at 10 p.m. and be completed by 4 a.m., Tuesday, June 27. During this time, four bridge beams will be replaced. Stopped traffic will be necessary for the beams to be transported to the site so cranes can lift and lower the beams into place on the southbound bridge.
During the process, Minnesota State Patrol will stop traffic to allow the equipment to get into place. Once the beam has been moved, the equipment will clear the area and state troopers will lead traffic to resume normal traffic through the work zone. Each beam replacement is expected to take approximately 15 minutes.
The Highway 52 bridge replacements at Cannon Falls are between the interchanges for Goodhue County Road 24 and Highway 19. Traffic travels in single lanes in each direction on northbound Highway 52 lanes through the work zone, while crews replace the southbound bridge. Once that bridge is built, traffic will be switched over so the northbound bridge can be replaced.
Traffic delays are likely in this work zone during high-traffic periods, such as weekends. For more information about this project, go to MnDOT's project website at www.dot.state.mn.us/d6/projects/hwy52-bridge-replacement.
