Hastings pilot OK after his plane began to sink on North Lake
A small airplane piloted by a Hastings man sank in the backwaters of the Mississippi River on Friday.
The pilot had dropped off an ice fisherman on North Lake between Hastings and Red Wing and was attempting to take off from the ice when his plane went through the ice. It became partially submerged in the water, which was about 6 feet deep. The pilot was not injured and the airplane was pulled from the water.
The incident occurred shortly after 5 p.m.
The pilot’s name was identified as John Caturia.
