Red Wing City Council briefs

Appointments approved

Red Wing City Council Monday approved the following appointments. The nominations were unofficially signed-off by Mayor-elect Dennis Egan.

• Katie Ramstad to the Human Rights Commission for a second three-year term.

• Lisbeth Butler to the Heritage Preservation Commission for a second three-year term.

• Tom Peschges to the Sustainability Commission for a partial term.

• Steve Freier to the Library Board for a three-year term.

Schultz is new high-speed rail liaison

Red Wing City Council Monday chose Council member Mike Schultz to attend Minnesota High Speed Rail meetings on its behalf. Former Mayor John Howe had been attending the meetings.

Council invites nuclear commission to Red Wing

City Council Monday approved a letter inviting the Blue Ribbon Commission on America's Nuclear Future to hold a commission meeting in Red Wing. The council also invited other nuclear host communities from the region to attend.

Shoveling bill denied

Red Wing City Council Monday denied a bill given to them by resident Robert Roschen. Roschen sent the city a $480 bill because he had to shovel snow from the street that had been plowed up onto his sidewalk.

Meeting watch

Monday's Red Wing City Council meeting lasted three and a half hours. All members were present, as was Mayor-elect Dennis Egan. Egan will be sworn in Feb. 28.
